Elstow Ceramics Helps Local School with Jubilee Project

Inspiring Children create a masterpiece to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee

Artist Kristy Adams was invited to facilitate the creation of a mosaic for a wall at the back of Scott Lower School by Head Teacher Anita Barker. It was the children from the Squirrels Nurture group that first worked on the ideas, made drawings and used tiles generously supplied by local company Elstow Ceramic Tiles for the mosaic.

Kristy said ‘ It is so fun working with the children, they are packed full of creativity and my job is to help them let it out! I brought the images of mosaics from; a recent trip to Capitol Hill in Washington, from Italy, Bedford Museum and Chichester’s Fishbourne Roman Villa, and other modern mosaics. We talked about the National events happening this year. The children chose to create an image to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, they have given her an Olympic Handbag and a Union Jack dress. The school Council are going to write to Her Majesty to wish her congratulations on reigning for 60 years and send her a photo of their mosaic.

I really enjoy being in Scott Lower School, the children have wonderful manners and the staff are enthusiastic and dedicated. And both adults and children are open to trying new skills and Scott Lower is a creative place.
